replied the topic Problems with WiseCare365 Disk Defrag created by shotokan1

Starting with Windows Vista, the built-inWindows Disk Defragmenterhas been much improved upon, and more so in Windows 8 and Windows 7, and is considered to be much better than its predecessor Windows XP. The defrag engine and the manageability of fragmentation have been improved. The Disk Defragmenter runs as a low priority task in the background without affecting the performance of the computer. It runs only when the machine is idle! It uses the Task Scheduler to automatically keep the hard disk defragmented. This automated defragmentation does notaffect the performance of the Windows.Disk Defragmenter in Windows 10/8Now, by default, the defrag tool only defragments filessmaller than 64 MB, for according to Microsoft’s benchmarks, fragments of this size, which already consist of at least16000 contiguous clusters, have a negligible impact on performance. This means that games and large media files are effectively left as theyare! So if you still want to defrag files larger than 64 MB too, you need to use the-wparametermentioned below to defragment files of all size.Starting with Windows 7, defragmentation became even more comprehensive – many files that could not be re-located in Windows Vista or earlier versions can now be optimally replaced. In particular, a lotof work was done to make various NTFS metadata files movable. This ability to relocate NTFS metadata files also benefits volume shrink, since it enables the system to pack allfiles and file system metadata more closely and free up space “at the end”which can be reclaimed if required. In Windows 7, Microsoft had turned off defragmentation for Solid State Disks. In Windows 8 however, since the tool has undergone a change into a general disk optimization tool, you will see it enabled by default for SSDstoo. You can read more about theImproved Disk Defragmenter and Storage Optimizer in Windows 8. If you use a Solid State Drive, you may want to read this post onDefragmentation and SSD in Windows 8.

The following information can help you to optimize, repair, or gain a betterunderstanding of how your NTFS volumes use disk space.Cluster Size Is Too LargeOnly files and folders that include internal NTFS metafiles like theMaster File Table (MFT), folder indexes, and others can consume disk space. These files and folders consume all the file space allocation by using multiples of a cluster. A cluster is a collection of contiguous sectors. The cluster size is determined by the partition size when thevolume is formatted. For additional information about clusters, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:140365Default Cluster Size for FAT and NTFSWhen a file is created, it consumes a minimum of a single cluster of disk space, depending on the initial file size. When data is later added to a file, NTFS increases the file's allocation in multiples of the clustersize. To determine the current cluster size and volume statistics, run a read-onlychkdskcommand from a command prompt. To do so, follow these steps :1.ClickStart, clickRun, typecmd, and then clickOK.2.At the command prompt, type the following command:chkdskd:whered:is the letter of the drive that you want to check.3.ClickOK.4.View the resulting output. For example:4096543 KB total disk space. <--- Total formatted disk capacity. 2906360 KB in 19901 files. <--- Space used by user file data.6344 KB in 1301 indexes. <--- Space used by NTFS indexes.0 KB in bad sectors. <--- Space lost to bad sectors.49379 KB in use by the system. <--- Includes MFT and other NTFS metafiles.22544 KB occupied by the log file. <--- NTFS Log file - (Can be adjusted using chkdsk /L:size)1134460 KB available on disk. <--- Available FREE disk space4096 bytes in each allocation unit. <--- Cluster Size. (4K)1024135 total allocation units ondisk. <--- Total Clusters on disk.283615 allocationunits available on disk. <--- Available free clusters.Note: Multiply each value that the output reports in kilobytes (KB) by1024 to determineaccurate byte counts. For example: 2906360x 1024 = 2,976,112,640 bytes. You can use this information to determine how your disk space is being used and the default cluster size. To determine whether this is the optimal cluster size, you must determine the wasted space on your disk. To do so, follow these steps:1.ClickStart, clickMyComputer, and then double-click the drive letter (forexample, D) of the volume in questionto open the volume and display the folders and files that the root contains.2.Click any file or folder, and then clickSelect Allon theEditmenu.3.With all the files and folders selected, right-clickany file or folder, clickProperties, and then click theGeneraltab.TheGeneraltab displays the total number of files and folders on the whole volume and provides two file size statistics:SIZEandSIZE ON DISK.If you are not using NTFS compression for any files or folders contained on the volume, the differencebetween SIZE and SIZEON DISK may represent some wasted space because the cluster size is larger than necessary. You may want to use asmaller cluster size so that the SIZE ON DISK value is as close to the SIZE value as possible. An large difference between the SIZE ON DISK and the SIZE value indicates that the default cluster size is too large for the average file size that you are storing on the volume. You can only change the cluster size you areusing by reformatting the volume. To do this, back up the volume, and then format the volume by using theformatcommand and the/aswitch to specifythe appropriate allocation. For example:format D: /a:2048(This example uses a 2-KB cluster size).Note: Alternately, you can enable NTFS compression to regain space that you lost because of an incorrect cluster size. However, this may result in decreased performance.

replied the topic Windows slow My Pc is too slow created by softunis

If Windows seems sluggish, you can restore good performance using these simple techniques. Here's how to speed up Windows and make your laptop or PC faster. See also: 5 ways to spring clean your computer
When you get a new laptop or PC, it always starts up and responds quickly. But as you install apps, games and fill up the hard drive with music, documents and photos it can slow down and even take minutes to start up. There are many things that can make Windows slow, but you should be able to restore most of its original speed without spending any money at all. But if your laptop or PC has a traditional hard drive rather than a modern SSD, then it can be well worth spending some money and buying an SSD: it's still the single most effective performance upgrade for most people. Jump straight to all hardware upgrades.
Regardless of your computer's hardware, there are various things you can do to speed up Windows, and here are our top tips.
How to speed up Windows: Get rid of start-up programs
Part of the reason why well-used PCs take so long to start is because of all the applications and utilities you've installed. Many automatically run when Windows starts up, yet most of them don't need to and should only use up resources when you actually need to use them.
At the right side of the taskbar, click the upwards-facing arrow to display the notification icons. Each is a program that loads with Windows. Some are essential - antivirus software for example - but others may not be. Right-click each one and if there is a Settings menu, select it and turn off the option to start automatically with Windows. Some programs, such as Google Drive, can be manually started when they are needed instead of running all the time.
To disable all the other programs and 'helpers' apps which start with Windows, press Windows+R and type msconfig and click Ok. Select the Services tab, tick ‘Hide all Microsoft services' and see what's left. There may be services you can live without and clearing the tick box prevents them from running. For example, Firefox works perfectly well without the Mozilla Maintenance Service.
On the Startup tab (use Task Manager - right-click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager - in Windows 8 and Windows 10 to find this), are lots of programs that start with Windows. Knowing what to disable isn't easy, but you can use Google to search for items and see if they are necessary, useful or neither of those. Windows 10 helpfully tells you how much impact each program has on performance:
For programs which have a high start-up impact, you can right click and disable them.
Degfragging
Recent versions of Windows automatically defragment the disk, but Microsoft's tool is basic and there are better defragmenters that boost performance even more. Programs including O&O Defrag are good, but IObit's Smart Defrag 5 is nearly as good and is free. Bear in mind that you should only use one of these if your PC has a traditional mechanical hard drive. If it has an SSD, don't use such utilities on them, but if you have both, only use a defragger on the hard disk.
Check for malware and other nasties
It’s advisable to run a system scan to ensure that there are no erroneous pieces of software causing harm and slowing down your machine. If you rely on Windows Defender for your security then you’ll need to go to the Start Menu>Settings>Update and Security>Windows Defender then in the right hand panel scroll down until you see Open Windows Defender. Click this and then in the next window on the right hand side there are options to run a Quick, Full, or Custom scan. Make sure you won’t need your PC for a little while and opt for the Full version. Then click on Scan now. If Windows finds anything untoward it will let you know and suggest ways to deal with the issue.
If you use another antivirus package, such as AVG, Norton, McAfee, or similar, you’ll need to launch the program and find the option to perform a system scan. They are usually very easy to discover.
Adjust the amount of Virtual Memory Windows uses
Another quick fix for a PC that’s slowing down is allowing Windows to use more Virtual Memory. Follow our
How to Adjust the amount of Virtual Memory your system uses
guide to address this common problem.
Tame the visual effects
Windows 10 is quite a pretty operating system, with various animations used throughout. While these visual effects afford a sense of style they can also be a source of ponderance on machines that are a little older. Thankfully they are easy to turn off.
Open the Windows Start Menu and type advanced system settings and select the top result. In the window that appears there is a section marked Performance, with a button for Settings. Click this and a list of the various visual effects will appear. You can either untick the ones you think might be problematic, or simply select the Adjust for best performance option at the top. Remember to click OK to save the changes.

replied the topic Intel vs AMD: which chipmaker does processors better? created by mazeal

There are a lot of moving parts when it
comes to PC upkeep. It’s by no means an
effortless task, and it only gets more
onerous as you consider upgrading the
various components. On the bright side,
maintaining a PC comes down to little
more than a basic understanding of how
one works.
Among the most important parts of a
computer is the CPU, otherwise known as
the processor. If the motherboard is the
PC’s skeleton, the CPU is the brains of the
operation.
Finding the best processor for your needs
is a straightforward process once you
determine which brand suits you best: are
you an AMD or an Intel junkie? The answer
isn’t quiter as simple as whether your
prefer the color red or blue.
Like the war waging in the graphics cards
space between Nvidia and AMD, the CPU
market oversees the rivalry of AMD vs
Intel.
Despite biased hearsay, both company’s
chips have their own advantages and
shortcomings. For example, while AMD’s
chips typically boast more cores, the cores
that Intel’s CPUs do have are made faster
by Hyper-threading.
With AMD due for an imminent upgrade,
let’s look at how its Ryzen processors are
bound to stack up against Intel’s Kaby
Lake chips, which power everything from
Microsoft’s Surface range to classically
designed gaming PCs such as the Lenovo
IdeaCentre Y900 .

fix the board was unplugging it from the USB port and trying the one next to it. Again, no response. Same story with all my other USB ports. Keep in mind this mechanical keyboarddoesn’t come with any software and Redragon advertises it as “Plug & Play” with no need to install drivers.Restarting my PC was of no help. At least the LED backlighting was working, so it was receiving power. Just no communications. At this point I was becoming really agitated and started to suspect Windows 10 was the cause of my frustrations.Let’s try another device that doesn’t run on the Windows platform. I pulled out my Samsung Galaxy S6 and connected the Redragon using an OTG adapter cable. It worked perfectly. Whew. So now I knew their was nothing physically wrong with the keyboard. This was a driver issue with Windows 10.After a bit of research and Google searching I found the solution to my problem. If you have a Redragon mechanical keyboard that powers on but isn’t responding to any input, try these steps first before returning it for a refund or exchanging for a board of the same model that will most likely still suffer from the issue.Note: It would be helpful to have a second working keyboard also plugged in during these steps.1. Navigate to the Device Manager with your Redragon mechanical keyboard still plugged in. Start typing “DeviceManager” in the Windows search. Click on Device Manager once it shows up.

2. Once in the Device Manager, scroll down and find “UniversalSerial Bus controllers” and clickon the arrow to the left to expand the list.3. From this list locate “ND-techUSB Adapter”, richt-click it and select “Update Driver Software…” from the menu box.
This last option can also work for mouse and keyboard, start your computer immediately press hold on delete using redragon device it the keyboard after that the BIOS menu will appear check for pheriphera enable it then save and exit, the PC will reboot and keyboard will start working, even if it is mouse or any USB port.

you dont specify either it PC keyboard or Android problem but let try the two persist problem, then we must try troubleshooting steps which are comparatively more complex. In this step, by restarting your device in the safe mode, we can establish whether a problem has occurredbecause of one of the third party apps. This will mean that your stock Android keyboard is the one that will be working inthe Safe Mode.*.Press and Hold the Power button so thatthe Power menu cancome up on the screen*.Now press the Power option on themenu and continue to press it till you see a pop-up box asking you if you want to restart in Safe mode*.Tap on OK and confirm
Once the device restarts in Safe mode you will see the wordsSafe Mode written on the screen to confirm. Now check if the keyboard works in theSafe mode.If it does work then one of the third party apps that you are using may be the culprit. To identify the app which may be causing the problem, you must first figure, then try to disable the apps that you had recently installed. Disable the apps one by one and find out if the keyboard starts working after disabling a particular app. Once you know which app caused the problem, uninstall it.

Factory Settings

If your keyboard still does not work then you must considerresetting the device to factory settings. By doing so, you will be able to bring the device’s software backto its initial state whenit was taken out of the box. It will wipe all data from your device and you will also lose all third party apps that you had installed to the device. Make sure you back up all data so that you do not lose important data once you have reset the device.*.Go to the Settings menu of your device*.Tap on Backup and Reset*.Check the box whichallows you to back-up your GoogleAccount*.Tap on Reset FactorySettings*.Tap Reset Phone
Once the device has been reset to factory settings then you can try and check if the problem has been solved. You can then restore the data and continue to use the device as usual. The solutions for “Unfortunately, Android keyboard has stopped” will work on most of the Android devices

An IP addresshas two components, the network address and the host address. A subnet mask separates the IP address into the network and host addresses (). Subnettingfurther divides the host part ofan IP address into a subnet and host address () if additional subnetwork is needed. Use theSubnet Calculatorto retrieve subnetwork information from IP address and Subnet Mask. It is called asubnet mask because it is used to identify network address of an IP address by perfoming a bitwise AND operation on the netmask.A Subnet mask is a 32-bit number that masks an IP address, and divides the IP address into network address and host address. Subnet Mask is made by setting network bits to all "1"s and setting host bits to all "0"s. Within a given network, two host addresses are reserved for special purpose, and cannot be assigned to hosts. The "0" address is assigned a network address and "255" is assigned to a broadcast address, and they cannot be assigned to hosts.Examples of commonly used netmasks for classed networksare 8-bits (Class A), 16-bits (Class B) and 24-bits (Class C),

You missed theFirefox 45 ESRoption as it iscurrently supported with updates and does still run on CPU's that does not support SSE2.
But apart from that, you will get a fast browser for your old machine if you use Pale Moon there. Another alternative (even faster) is K-meleon:http:/'/kmeleonbrowser.org/Drawback there: It is complicated to install add-ons, and most Firefox add-ons do not work at all with K-Meleon.
If not then you will have to upgrade your computer(aka. replace the motherboard that can accept newer & faster CPUs that include SSE2 support such as Intel Pentium 4 hyperthread, AMD Athlon 64 / Sempron 64 or faster

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.Method 1: Connect the mobile PC to a power sourceWhen you plug the mobile PC into a power source, Windows switches the wireless network adapter power setting in the default power plan from the MediumPower Savingsetting to theMaximum Performancesetting. This turns off the 802.11 power save mode.Method 2: Modify the default power saving power planModify the default on-battery power setting for the wirelessnetwork adapter. Configure the wireless network adapter to use the Maximum Performance setting when Windows is configured to use the Balancedpower plan or thePower saverpower plan. To do this, follow these steps:Windows Vista and Windows 7Windows Vista andWindows 7Windows 8 and Windows 8.1Windows 8 and Windows 8.1Method 3: Use the "High performance" power planIf the computer is running on a power plan other than theHigh performancepower plan when you connect to a wireless network, manually change the power plantoHigh performance. To do this, follow thesesteps:Windows Vista and Windows 7Windows Vista andWindows 7Windows 8 and Windows 8.1Windows 8 and Windows 8.1Method 4 (for advanced users): If"Wireless Power Setting" can't be customized in the UserInterface as described in Method 3, here is how to implement the same change using thePowerCfg commandWindows 8 or 8.1The workaround documented for Windows 8.1 is to change the Balanced power plan, Wireless Adapter Settings power saving mode for"On battery" to"Maximum performance".
