You need to use a VGA to HDMI converter, available from Amazon.com for about $20 (see pics for example). You will also need an HDMI cable connected from the converter to your TV. You will also need a USB cable for the #2 picture configuration (don't believe it comes with one from Amazon).

VGA is a analogue video signal wherein HDMI is digital. you will need an Analog-to-Digital Video converter.

To connect the display using an HDMI connection (and HDMI cable):

Shut down the computer. Turn off the monitor or TV.
Connect an HDMI cable to the computer and to the display.
Turn on the display, and select the HDMI input as the input source to view.
Turn on the computer.

Use the following steps to activate HDMI sound on your Windows...

Right-click the Volume icon (white speaker) on the taskbar.
Click Playback Devices.
The Sound window opens.
On the Playback tab, click Digital Output Device (HDMI) if it is present. If it is not present, click HDMI Output.
Click Set Default.
Click Apply.
Do one of the following:

If you used Digital Output Device (HDMI), click OK to close the window. This completes the steps to activate HDMI sound for this option. Continue with Using the graphics card software to adjust settings.
If you used HDMI Output.

Double-click HDMI Output.
The Properties window opens.
Click the Supported Formats tab.
Place a check in the 48.0 KHz check box, and ensure that there is no check in the Dolby Digital check box and all other check boxes.

I understand that your hp 15 notebook pc have HDMI port. But your TV could have either HDMI or VGA

For HDMI TV:-




For VGA TV:

Follow the same process. But use VGA to HDMI converter as told by Mr. JimW

Depends on what type of hp laptop you have, some of the hp laptops do not have an ordinary hdmi port but have a different digital video out port.
if you can send an image of your 'hdmi' port than i can see what cable with what connector you'll need. you might need this converter.

If have a laptop or a PC Windows with exit HDMI and like connect it to your TV, today from TuWindowsMundo, you teach some simple steps that can achieve it. You need an HDMI cable, these are quite economic and readily available at any store technology. Connect the HDMI cable to the ports on the TV and the computed using the key combination (Windows key + P) you can choose if you want to see the computer and TV screens at the same time (in the case of a laptop), or if you only want to see the TV screen.
Make right click on the desktop, will open a context menu, this selects the option to screen resolution, in the window that opens, change the resolution which is the native resolution of the TV, this can be found looking for the model of your TV in the manufacturer website and looking at the specifications, or you can simply select the resolution that recommends Windows , which is the most high that the TV can support.
Through an HDMI connection so much video, such as audio, however, can be transmitted when connecting a computer to a TV with Windows, the operating system does not automatically change device through which the sound should play so we must enter the control panel, find the hardware and sound section, and entering there, click on sound Opens a new window, in this we must enter the tab playback, search for the name of our TV, right click on, and select the option set as default, this should be done every time you connect the PC to the TV, since otherwise the operating system will use integrated default speakers. As you can see in the image, in my case not I set as default the TV speakers, since the HDMI cable is disconnected.

Are you trying to connect HDMI to HDMI or Display port to HDMI or DVI to HDMI? Have you updated your video drivers? Check device manager for any problems. Is the laptop recognizing the TV using your method? Verify the cable is working. Make sure the TV is set to the correct HDMI input if your TV has more than one.
